Panasonic lunches four new models to its Thoughbook rugged laptop PC series. The new laptops adopt the Intel “Santa Rosa” platform and enhanced protection from drops and spills. Dubbed as the CF-T7, CF-W7, CF-Y7, and the CF-R7, these new desktop replacements can survive a fall from 76 centimeters high. No word on pricing yet.

The 3 newborns are called CF-T7, CF-W7 and CF-Y7 and some people might say that the first two laptops are twins since the only difference is the screen, while W5 comes with a 12-inch LCD screen, the T5 adds a touch responsive feature that is perfect for a certain kind of business. Both have an Intel Core Solo processor and 512MB of RAM only which can’t be upgraded. To continue the similarity trend, they both cost the same $1,899 and will be in stock during October, have a 60GB hard-drive and battery life has a difference of 2 hours: the W5 can handle 8 hour while the Y5 will work for 10 hours.

CF-Y5 is the best one, bigger display and better performance = a 14.1-inch display, a 1.66-GHz Intel Core Duo L2400 processor and RAM memory expandable to 1.5GB instead of the miserable 512MB. It has a built-in DVD/CD-RW optical drive, supports Bluetooth and can provide 6 hours of battery life, that’s the price of better performance. The CF-Y5 will cost $2,199 and be obtainable on December.

All the new models are light (from 3 pounds to 3.5) and tough which means they are also just the thing to take for work or institution of higher education because they can handle impacts and accidental drops like no other notebooks.
