Acer is touting the multimedia capabilities of this notebook, obviously the 18.4″ viewing real estate with a 16:9 ratio 1080p screen is a major selling point for media mavens — with this aspect there’s no need for pixel compression. This is the first 18.4″ screen notebook so Acer is definitely differentiating itself here. Also big news is the fact that they are using the Nvidia 9650m 512MB graphics card to handle the playback of Blu-Ray movies so the processor isn’t stressed out, this system is being dubbed “CineReal” by Acer.

January 19th, 2008HCL Lunched cheapest laptop

hcl-laptop.jpg After the launch of Nano, the one lakh car, it’s now time for the cheapest laptop to hit the markets. HCL launched their fully functional, ultra portable range of laptops that offer mobile internet at only Rs 13,990. Aimed at the masses, MiLeap or ‘My Internet Leap’ has been intended exclusively for the Indian consumer. It will be available from January 26.

It’s the price that makes MiLeap tick. While the cheapest notebook begins at around Rs 20,000, MiLeap breaks the price barrier and makes it easy for the standard man to own a laptop. For instance, Compaq’s low-end Presario notebooks begin at around Rs 24,000, and Acer’s notebooks with Celeron processor begins around Rs 25,000.

“MiLeap will be the future of computing. It will herald in a new category of computing devices, opening up a wide range of new custom scenarios and application areas,” says Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and chief executive, HCL Info systems.
